Sitio Belis sits atop the Cordillera mountain range blessed with natural springs that flow all year round. Pictured is the Pias Family one of the 50 families overseen by social enterprise Kalsada. Asthrine Pias the mill manager oversees operations whereby farmers bring freshly picked cherries to the mill every day, which are immediately processed.
Kalsada champions Philippine specialty coffee. “Our top priority is to support Filipino coffee producers and their dedicated efforts to bring quality coffee to market.”
“We seek to build trust and partnership with local communities. We invest in machinery and equipment to elevate coffee quality, and we pay farmers over $1 per pound more than Fair Trade. We do this by actively listening to communities, in order to meet their needs. Through our work, we hope to encourage future generations of Filipino coffee growers, and to spread the word about Philippine specialty coffee.”
We were fortunate enough to meet Carmel Laurino the founder of Kalsada in 2015, we have kept our conversation going throughout all these years and now pleased to be the first in Europe to offer these coffees alongside our other Philippine origins. We firmly believe in the efforts of Kalsada and grateful to our green partners Indochina who brought these coffees over.
